Mobilizing a first-of-its-kind Coalition

The Make Hunger History Coalition is made up of a diverse set of stakeholders – from food access, healthcare, public health, local agriculture, elected officials, philanthropy, and grassroots advocates – committing together to achieve the goal: All Massachusetts residents have dignified access to food and the economic resources needed to make choices about their food. Let’s create a better future for the Commonwealth and make hunger history.

The Five Pillars of Progress

Making Hunger History

EThe coalition has identified 5 key pillars that underly achieving our goal: All Massachusetts residents have dignified access to food and the economic resources needed to make choices about their food.

The work of the Coalition will be driven through Working Groups, one for each of the five pillars of progress.

  1. Ensuring that all residents can access and buy food.
  2. Integrating food security into healthcare.
  3. Support residents to eat nutritious and local food.
  4. Enhance food support programs for targeted populations.
  5. Address root causes which contribute to hunger.

These action-oriented teams — Pillar Working Groups — are comprised of coalition members, subject matter experts, policymakers, and individuals with lived experience, focused on developing and advancing strategic recommendations towards each of the pillars.

In the face of daunting issues, leaders must come together to do what’s right. When we work together to achieve a goal greater than all of us, we can accomplish it, and that includes eradicating hunger."

The work is underway! The MHH Working Groups representing each Pillar of Progress play a critical role in moving the work of the Coalition forward. Working group members will:

  • Collaborate with fellow members to develop strategies, recommendations, and action plans aligned with the coalition’s roadmap.
  • Engage in regular meetings, contributing insights and expertise to advance workgroup priorities.
  • Share knowledge and resources to strengthen collective efforts.
  • Advise on policy, programmatic, and advocacy opportunities within their focus area.
  • Provide feedback on draft recommendations and help refine strategies before broader coalition discussions.
  • Support implementation efforts by identifying opportunities for engagement, partnership, and advocacy.

Make Hunger History is seeking passionate individuals and organizations who want to play an active role in the work of the Coalition.
